Tip of the Month: Stop in Front of the Net

How many times do you suppose you have shot the puck toward the net and then skated off in a nice sweeping arc while praying that the puck gets past the goalie? If you’re anything like me, you’ve shot it square into the goalie’s chest or pad. But what about that nice juicy rebound? Hoping one of your lazy teammates gets to it? Not likely.

How about if you shoot, and then stop right in front of the net to see if there is a rebound (I mean in the unlikely event you didn’t bury it in the back of the net.) Try it. It sounds easy. Physically it is not a hard thing to do, but it definitely falls under the category of teaching an old dog a new trick.

I can almost guarantee you that if you are in the habit of skating past the net, you will not be able to do this unless you really focus on it. Retrain yourself to stop in front of the net, and see if you don’t get a few more goals per season.
