Darude - My Game Video

This month I also have an exciting hockey music video to share with you. It has been created by a Weekend Warrior Alum by the name of Ville Virtanen. Ville is a native of Finland, and he attended our camp in Washington, DC last year. In the music business, Ville goes by the name Darude, and he has actually produced several music videos which can be found on Youtube. His latest is called “My Game;" check it out.

Tip of the Month: Stop in Front of the Net

How many times do you suppose you have shot the puck toward the net and then skated off in a nice sweeping arc while praying that the puck gets past the goalie? If you’re anything like me, you’ve shot it square into the goalie’s chest or pad. But what about that nice juicy rebound? Hoping one of your lazy teammates gets to it? Not likely.

How about if you shoot, and then stop right in front of the net to see if there is a rebound (I mean in the unlikely event you didn’t bury it in the back of the net.) Try it. It sounds easy. Physically it is not a hard thing to do, but it definitely falls under the category of teaching an old dog a new trick.

I can almost guarantee you that if you are in the habit of skating past the net, you will not be able to do this unless you really focus on it. Retrain yourself to stop in front of the net, and see if you don’t get a few more goals per season.

Top 10 Reasons Your Spouse Should Let You Go to Hockey Camp

Last month I promised a new Top 10 list for March. Here it is…and this one actually has 10!

10) Two words: Spring Cleaning. Think how nice the house will smell for the 4 days without your hockey gear around.

9) It’s a lot cheaper than that baseball fantasy camp you wanted to go to.

8) It’s a lot less dangerous than sky diving camp. (You should be concerned if your spouse has shown you brochures for skydiving camp and recently upped your life insurance policy.)

7) The government is sending you money to stimulate the economy. Why would anyone want to stop you from being a Patriot?

6) Can you say “Shopping Spree”? (In your absence, that is. Hey, everything has a price.)

5) You will be so sore and tired upon return, you won’t be asking for sex for a week.

4) Because it will make YOU happy (I hear this actually works in some situations.)

3) In your absence, your spouse will be able to watch something besides hockey on TV.

2) When you come home, as payback you will be your spouse’s slave for a month. Finally that “Honey Do” list will get some attention.

And the number one reason your spouse should let you go to hockey camp:

1) Your spouse has seen you play hockey!

What? You say you don’t have a spouse or significant other? Well then, I hope you have enjoyed our list. You should also enjoy the fact that you don’t need a reason to go to hockey camp! Check out our 2008 camp dates. We hope to see you there, if your spouse REALLY loves you.

Top 10 Reasons to think of Hockey on Valentine’s Day*

Question: What does hockey have to do with Valentine’s Day?

Answer: Absolutely Nothing. But this won’t help us sell any spots for our 2008 hockey camps. And why should we be the only ones left out of this “Hallmark Holiday” that was conceived by some Evil Marketing Super-Genius. So consider the following Top 10 list:

  1. H is for Hockey, and H is for Heart. Coincidence? I think not.
  2. Valentine’s Day is about Love. We should all love that special someone in our life as much as we love to play hockey. Ask yourself this: Would I still be with my girl/guy if she/he smelled as bad as my hockey bag? Be honest.
  3. Hockey is a great opportunity for couples to enjoy quality time together. After all, somebody has got to be on the receiving end of that slap shot.
  4. Cupid shoots arrows. Hockey players shoot pucks. Duh!
  5. Why should February 14th be the ONLY day of the year we don’t think of hockey?
  6. 9 out of 10 hockey coaches (and who could be more romantic than hockey coaches) agree that the best way to express your love to your sweetheart is not through candy, flowers or jewelry. It is hockey camp. Come on, you’ve seen him or her play. You know they need the help. We can make them suck a little less. Sign them up today!

*We all know Canada is the home of hockey, so as a salute to our Canadian friends, this is a metric version of our list. OK, I know that’s a bit of a cop out, but hey, there has been a writer’s strike going on for how long? You should be happy with 6!
